Our Instructors
Ephraim Victor Effiom Sensei is the pioneer and foremost Aikido practitioner in Nigeria. He started his Aikido training in Nigeria under visiting Master Fuji Shuyuki (9th Degree Aikido) back in 1988 who was a student of Morihiro Saito Sensei, one of Ueshiba’s last students. He studied with him for several years before Master Shuyuki left Nigeria.
After that, Ephraim Sensei has continued practising Aikido in different parts of the world with different instructors and students. His many journeys have brought him to practice with great instructors such as British John Albert Sensei, Yoko Okamoto Sensei and Teruo Koyama Sensei of Japan, Masato Sensei of Hong Kong and he has also participated in many programmes for the development of Aikido. One of his projects is Aikido for the physically challenged where he trains and develops the physically challenged.
Presently, Ephraim Sensei has trained many students and given several public demonstrations in Cross River State, Rivers State, Delta State, Lagos state, Akwa Ibom State and Abuja, Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. He holds a 7th Degree Black Belt in Shuyuki-Ryu Bujustu, 4th Degree Black Belt in Aikido, 1st Degree Black Belt in Shorinji Kempo and 1st Degree Black Belt in Shotokai Karate. He is a Professor of Self Defence (Shell Award 2006) and Director of Close Quarter Combat (CQC) in Nigeria. He is the Chancellor of Aikido Hombu Dojo Nigeria. He is the academic director of International Aikido Academy (IAA) Nigerian Branch, and also the President of Aikido United International (AUI) Nigerian branch. He is currently a practitioner of Traditional and Modern Chinese medicine.
